The Recipe for a Great Event
By Carrie Huckeby
Our annual convention is right around the corner! I can hardly wait. As we put the final touches on our plans, I’ve been thinking about what it really takes to create a meaningful conference experience. At its core, the answer is simple: You plan with your members in mind. Think about what the end result should be, what you want every attendee to walk away with, and plan every session, speaker, and detail with that goal in mind.
In some ways, it reminds me of making sourdough bread. You start with simple ingredients, but it takes time and attention to turn it into something worth sharing.
You feed it, adjust it, and sometimes start over, always working to improve the final result. My own starter—nicknamed “Bread Pitt,” a Christmas gift from my sister—has taught me that patience and consistency matter.
Although at first it seems labor-intensive, all the attention to tiny details can make all the difference in the final loaf. Planning our convention follows a similar path. Each year, we build on what worked, look for ways to improve, and keep our focus on delivering something valuable for our members.
That’s why you’ll see thoughtful updates this year, from improvements to our online registration process to the addition of onsite badge printing. These may seem like small changes, but they’re designed to make your experience smoother and more enjoyable. Like any good recipe, we’re always refining. We’re grateful for the partners and sponsors who help make it all possible, and we look forward to sharing the finished product with you in June.
Early registration and room block availability for the Annual Convention & Showcase close on May 18.
