IFAST’s Success Reflects Growing Need

The impact of Operation Internet Service Providers Fight Against Sex Trafficking (IFAST is proving successful. Guardian Group’s Third Quarter Impact Report reflects growth that mirrors both increasing online avenues for crime and the increasing need for staffing. However, new opportunities for partnership mean Guardian Group has the potential to continue locating and offering resources to victims.

With help from participants, partners, and Project 1591 volunteers, Guardian Group has identified potential trafficking victims in all 50 states. Since 2018, the project has helped locate 1,439 possible trafficking victims, 428 in this year alone. This growing effort is proof that community collaboration works.

24 new volunteers joined Project 1591, bringing the total to 234 individuals in 41 states. The group’s goal is to have 500 certified volunteers by its 5th anniversary in 2027, so now is the time to get involved. In addition to volunteers, Guardian Group added 1 law enforcement officer in South Dakota, expanding its continued effort to ensure that every PAIR, Potential At-Risk Individual Report, receives the follow-up it deserves.

The new Operation IFAST Certified program has welcomed its first partners—CLtel, South Slope Cooperative Communications, Triangle Communications, and Tri-County Communications Cooperative, all located in the Midwest or Northwest. Becoming certified means each company has trained over 80% of its staff, made its annual commitment, and connected Guardian Group with its local law enforcement.

Project 1591 volunteers, who are trained in victim identification, have outpaced the organization’s paid internal analysts’ ability to review cases and respond to law enforcement requests for support.
