Since 2020, TNBA member TEC has sponsored an award to honor educators. The Golden Apple Award, presented in conjunction with TV station WDAM 7 in Laurel, Mississippi, recognizes the invaluable contributions of teachers in local communities.

“Teachers play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our society,” TEC Marketing Supervisor Faith Livingston says. “Through this initiative, we aim to express our gratitude and admiration for their tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to nurturing young minds.”

Eligible areas include Mississippi counties Covington, Forrest, Jasper, Jones, Lamar, Marion, Perry, and Wayne. The award goes out after the public has a chance to nominate outstanding educators teaching kindergarten through 12th grades via the Golden Apple page. Teachers are judged based on the following criteria: work ethic, dedication to students, and originality of their approach to teaching.

TEC‘s sponsorship of this award furthers its long-standing dedication to community engagement. The standards the award honors also complement TEC’s core values of commitment, responsibility, opportunities, and efficiency.

“TEC has a legacy of connecting people and fostering a sense of community since 1923. Our commitment to community engagement is an integral part of our corporate ethos. We continually seek avenues through which we can contribute meaningfully to the well-being of the communities we serve,” Livingston says.

“The TEC & WDAM Golden Apple award program exemplifies our dedication to recognizing and appreciating the invaluable contributions of teachers within these communities,” she continues. “Teachers play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our society. Through this initiative, we aim to express our gratitude and admiration for their tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to nurturing young minds.”
