Opportunities Abound for Rural Telecom Careers

Posted: June 16, 2023

Compared with when the organizations first started, many telecom job titles and position requirements look different today, but the opportunity for a lifelong and fulfilling career remains the same.

Rural telecom providers regularly provide high-paying jobs in a variety of fields — from computer networking to line work and marketing positions. Dozens of career paths are available without having to leave small-town life.

Combine the ample opportunities available with an industry that’s facing a significant portion of its workforce nearing retirement age, and there is a bright future for young individuals in rural telecommunications.

Recognizing this opportunity, the Foundation for Rural Service, the philanthropic arm of NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association, has published “Guide to Careers in Rural Telecommunications,” a booklet that highlights the types of jobs available at rural telecom companies.

The booklet is a resource for employers and prospective employees to plan for the future. It describes the various roles within a telecommunications company and the education required.

The “Guide to Careers in Rural Telecommunications” booklet is available online. Printed copies are available by contacting FRS. Visit the Foundation for Rural Service website for more information.
